Louise Reid

On May 28, 1953, God gifted Nancy Mae Ray and Coy Long a precious jewel named Louise Long. Louise was one of three siblings and began her life’s journey surrounded by family and love. Before becoming a Reid, Louise was first a Long, a devoted mother whose life and love extended well beyond what many may have known. Long before her union with Floyd, Louise embraced motherhood and the responsibilities that came with it. She was known, cherished, and loved as Mother, a role she carried with pride, strength, and unwavering devotion. Though not all details of this chapter are fully known to everyone, what is undeniable is that Louise’s legacy of love was second to none. Her nurturing spirit, sacrifice, and compassion shaped the lives of every person she encountered, leaving a lasting impression on all who were blessed to know her. Louise found the love of her life, Floyd Reid, and the two were united in marriage on July 23, 1978. From this union, Louise received her most cherished gifts—her children, Wendy and Anthony. Louise was not only a devoted nurturer to her own children, but to her entire family. Wendy and Anthony’s home was often filled with company every weekend, as Louise never hesitated to babysit and care for her loved ones. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and constant love. Louise was employed at O’Hare International Airport, where she worked diligently and took great pride in her career, forming many lasting relationships along the way. One of her most meaningful and enduring relationships was with Sharon Reid, her coworker for many years and, more importantly, her best friend and sister-in-law for life. Louise was called home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd Reid; her mother, Nancy Mae Ray; her father, Coy Long; her sons, Wendy and Cornelius; her daughters, Elisha and Latisha; her sister, Theresa Simmons; her brother, Bobby Simmons; her father-in-law, Milton Reid; her mother-in-law, Delores Reid; her brothers-in-law, Larry Reid and Clinton Reid; and her sisters-in-law, Linda Reid, Patricia Reid, and Jeanette Reid. Louise leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Anthony; her sisters-in-law, Rosemary, Deborah, Sharon (Sylvester), and Carol (James); and her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
